Western Digital is looking for qualified engineering candidates to fill some of thier 2018 Summer Internship positions in San Jose, CA. The group focuses on Smart Manufacturing, Digital Manufacturing, Advanced Process Control, and IIOT for industrial applications. 

They have openings in the following areas: 

Advanced Process Control 

Degree Desired: Masters, PhD

Major Desired: Engineering/Science Background

Required Skills/Qualifications:
• Familiar with the concepts of APC R2R control and Fault Detection.
• Research/work experience in manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Strong analytical and programming skills.
• Familiar with ProcessWORKS/RecipeWORKS, JMP and Microsoft Office software packages.
• Enjoy to collaborate in a teamwork environment to provide support and optimize APC solutions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Project Description: 
Execute Digital Mfg Strategy with APC focus and support GO 8" APC projects
• Attend APC project meetings with Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering and IT teams to collect and organize the information.
• Assist in setting up basic R2R control strategies and recipe templates.
• Design and develop new FDC models to enable proper actions.
• Develop test scenarios based on systems' requirements.
• Participate in system integration tests to verify setups and troubleshoot issues.

MFG System 

Degree Desired: BS, Masters

Major Desired: CSE, Industrial Engineering

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Familiar with User Interface Design and Optimization for efficiency.
Familiar with Factory systems in the Semiconductor/MEMS/High Tech area. (MES, ERP, PLM)
Familiar with integrating different software to increase factory efficiency.
Research/work experience in manufacturing environment is preferred.
Strong analytical and programming skills.

Project Description: 

1. Work with operations technology group to improve web based user interfaces for a new MES system.
2. Research and optimize best practices and procedures from two legacy Operations Systems into a new MES system.
3. Map legacy web based spec and SPC systems into a new architecture.

MFG System

Degree Desired: Masters, PhD

Major Desired: CSE, Data Science, Applied Mathematics/Physics

Required Skills/Qualifications: 

Skilled in working with ML environments and tools (AWS, Azure, Tensorflow, etc.)
Familiar with integrating different software to increase factory efficiency.
Familiar with Factory systems in the Semiconductor/MEMS/High Tech area preferred.
Strong analytical and programming skills.

Project Description: 

1. Work with and develop Machine Learning predictive models for Predictive Maintenance deployment in a Front End Wafer Fab.
2. Set up best practices for Engineers to document, validate, and share Facts for model training.
3. Model and Display Predictive maintenance model output in a visually friendly dashboard report in Spotfire.

MFG System

Degree Desired: BS, Masters

Major Desired: CSE

Required Skills/Qualifications: 

Familiar with Factory systems in the Semiconductor/MEMS/High Tech area. (MES, ERP, PLM)

Skilled in HMI and User INterface design for customer facing applications, or industrial applications for visualizations.

Project Description: 

Support shop floor interface and dashboard design for factory systems and automation in a high volume Front End Wafer Fab.
Gather focus group responses from shop floor operations for changes to user interface design for high volume manufacturing.
